The Melrose Chamber of Commerce Presents
The 29th Annual Victorian Fair
The Melrose Victorian Fair, sponsored by the Melrose Chamber of Commerce, has been a major hometown event for the past 29 years. A day-long celebration, the Victorian Fair has become a beloved community tradition. Established in 1981, the Fair was intended to bring community attention to the city's renovated downtown area. Newly installed Victorian lampposts highlight the prominent architecture and the rich, turn-of-the century heritage of Melrose. The Victorian Fair attracts thousands of people to Main Street in Melrose and, in 2009 the Fair will continue to bring local businesses, organizations and Melrose residents together for a joyful celebration of community. |

The Fair is held each year in mid-September, as the foliage begins to turn into the fabled colors of a New England autumn. Beginning at dawn on the morning of the Fair, volunteers transform downtown Melrose into a festive corridor. A two-block section of the bustling Main Street retail hub is closed to make way for the booths that will line the street on both sides. Performance stages are set up at various spots featuring local performing artists as well as dances and demonstrations by Melrose children. Canopied booths beckon the public with games, crafts, food and prizes. It is not at all unusual to see a mini-golf course set up on Main Street! And, you will never leave the Victorian Fair hungry because local restaurants prepare tasty samplings for the crowds that roam the downtown area. The day's gala celebration is brought to a grand climax with the drawing of the Chamber's "Big Ticket" Raffle prizes. Fair goers, volunteers and business owners alike are united by the annual rekindling of the Yankee small-town community spirit fostered by the Melrose Victorian Fair, a true New England tradition. We hope to see you at the Fair!
